Jig techniques
Here are some techniques you'll find in Irish jigs, and American or Canadian jigs in Irish style:
- First note of each group of three is heavier and slightly longer
- Second note of each group of three is shorter and softer, "ghosted"
- Jig slurring pattern, see below to practice
- Added grace notes, usually from above the note on the beat
- Grace notes in the middle of slurs
- Mordants going rapidly to the note above and back
- Full turns on longer notes
