Here are some techniques you'll find in Irish jigs, and American or Canadian jigs in Irish style:
  • First note of each group of three is heavier and slightly longer
  • Second note of each group of three is shorter and softer, "ghosted"
  • Jig slurring pattern, see below to practice
  • Added grace notes, usually from above the note on the beat
  • Grace notes in the middle of slurs
  • Mordants going rapidly to the note above and back
  • Full turns on longer notes
